A visit to the Oak Park Conservatory

During the weekend we try to get out at least once a day, but that can be challenging during the winter. Now that Jake has mastered walking and is almost running, we've been trying to take him to places where he can get some exercise and explore. A trip to the grocery store is no longer exciting for him... unless it's free sample day at Costco...

We live close to the Oak Park Conservatory so we checked it out last weekend. I wasn't sure if Jake would enjoy it because he doesn't understand yet that you're just supposed to look & not touch the plants, but he really had a fun time!

A parking cone warned of a crack in the walkway. Jake thought the cone was pretty cool.

Jake was able to walk around the first room where the sidewalks are level. The back two rooms have winding sidewalks & some "hills" so we'll explore those next time when his balance is better.

His favorite part was walking through the plastic doorway curtains that separate the climates in each room. He thought it was so funny and was going back & forth so fast that I couldn't snap a picture of him doing  it.

I'm happy that he liked it so much and I'm sure we'll be back soon.

Family Fun Weekend

This past weekend, Jacob got to meet his uncle Matt for the first time and Grandparents P were in town, too.

Hi Uncle Matt!

Grandma & Jake. And Maxie.

Grandpa & Jake. And Buddy!

We had a nice, relaxing weekend & did a lot of eating.
We went to one of our favorite local restaurants, Jimmy's Place, on Friday.
Saturday we had nepalese/indian food for lunch at Cumin in Wicker Park. Jake got to try a bit of mango lassi which is a sweet mango drink. I put some on his paci and he loved it!
On Sunday we went to brunch at Maya Del Sol for Grandma's birthday. The food was fantastic!
We also ordered deep dish somewhere in between all that eating out...

Sunday afternoon, Grandma & Grandpa P took Jake for a long walk from our house to Scoville Park while Chris & I ran some errands.
Jake was so exhausted from the weekend that he slept an 8.5 hour stretch for the first time Sunday night! I don't think this will be a regular event for him, but it's nice to know that he is capable of it.

FLW home & studio tour

A few weeks ago, when Grandparents P were visiting, we all went to the Frank Lloyd Wright home & studio for a tour.

Jake was snuggled in his Ergo carrier and slept the whole time.

I clearly didn't know I was getting my picture taken...
